Our Story

The guild is a member of ASI and was one of the founders of the international sommelier story... In 1969 there was the first World Cup in Belgium, which is also one of the reasons why we want to do this again 50 years later in a completely changed world.

 

Belgium, under the leadership of our President William 'Pazzo/Pato' Wouters, has always been a country with a pioneering role in the international field. We like to take the past into account, but above all we look into the future. And the future is our young sommeliers, for which we have had the junior story for many years. Every year, the professional sommeliers have the opportunity to compete for the title of Best Sommelier in Belgium. The guild also bears full responsibility for this in connection with the organization. This has been running together with the VVS and Prosper Montagné for several years now.

Our goal is to bring together the highest possible level of Belgian sommeliers and bring them to national, European and global level.

We are a country with a wine-loving public, and it is very important today that our demanding guests receive the right explanation and service. This certainly adds value to a catering business. People who keep this in mind can also offer a positive wine story and therefore a total package in these difficult times. And it is not just about Michelin stars. Our beautiful profession must also be able to find its place in a hotel, in a cafe, brasserie or wine bar.
