We have and are still interviewing top sommeliers from far and wide, but it bring us great pleasure to finally be able to add the following sommelier to our list!! Please meet our very own brand new president and benchmark for Limburg hospitality Kris Lismont. Kris is classical trained at the hotel school of Koksijde which is considered to be one of the best hotel schools in Belgium as most Belgian top chefs/restaurateurs have studied at this school. This training prepared Kris for a job at, at that time one of THE top restaurants in Belgium, the 3 Michelin awarded restaurant Bruneau. A job he kept for almost 3 years and give him enough baggage and maybe even more curiosity for the culinar

Time to put the sommeliers in the spotlight: Francesco Marzola

Time to go back North for our next sommelier, although we still touch a little bit of the south in this case as our next sommelier only moved from Sicily up North to Norway 9 years ago for love and got next to an amazing wife also a brilliant career in Norway… so a winner on the entire line. Speaking of winning, he also recently won the 2020 Best Sommelier of Norway competition and also became the Best Sommelier of the Nordics in 2018. Please meet Italo- Norwegian top sommelier Francesco Marzola It is a known fact that Francesco has already been working in the world of HoReCa since the age of 16, but at that age his life goal was not really HoReCa related as he studied Political science at u

Time to put the sommeliers in the spotlight: Daniele Arcangeli

A sommelier, or wine steward, is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional, normally working in fine restaurants, who specializes in all aspects of wine service as well as wine and food pairing… or at least that is the general view people have on a sommelier. Of course we can’t ignore that wine is an enormous part of the job of sommelier, but we all know there is much more then only wines. That is why we want to put the sommeliers and their job in the spotlight. The next sommelier we want to put in this spotlight is the 2015 ASPI Best Sommelier of Italy Daniele Arcangeli. Daniele was classically trained at the Tuscany (seaside) scuola alberghiero G. Minuto, after which he started his car

Time to put the sommeliers in the spotlight: Yiannis Stefanides

After all the interviews from sommeliers from up north, we need some sun :-) . For this sun we’re taking you to Cyprus to meeting sommelier Yiannis Stefanides. Some of you might recognize Yiannis as he gave us a helping hand during the Best Sommelier of the World contest week. Yiannis didn't live his whole life in sunny Cyprus, he actually grew up in Russia, but after high school, when the Soviet Union fell, Yiannis and his family moved to Cyprus. With parents from Greece and grandparents from Georgia you can try to ignore food and wine (as of a certain age), but at some point it will become the center of your life (This mostly goes for everybody close to the Mediterranean ) there is no esca

Time to put the sommeliers in the spotlight: Martynas Pravilonis

We’ve already interviewed over 100 sommeliers from all over the globe and when I ask them the skills that are needed to be a good sommelier, 90% (maybe even more) will tell you that you need to be some kind of a psychologist. Funny enough the next sommelier we want to introduce to you is actually a real psychologist (has a university degree) who after his studies became sommelier!!! So I guess he must be one of the best sommeliers around as he can read people like non-other :-) Anyhow, please meet Lithuanian top sommelier Martynas Pravilonis. He definitely is a top sommelier as not only did he win the title of Best Sommelier of Lithuania 3 times, he also won the Baltic Sommelier Championshi

Time to put the sommeliers in the spotlight: Tolli Sigurbjörnsson

Now we will travel up north to introduce Iceland top sommelier and 2016 Best Sommelier of iceland Tolli Sigurbjörnsson. Tolli is a very enthusiastic and person of many talents with a great sense of humour. After getting his bachelor at the hotel and catering school Tolli started working as sommelier for the 360° rotating Reykjavik restaurant Perlan. Perlan is located in, without any doubt, the most recognizable restaurant of Reykjavik. Over 176,000 trees have been planted on the hillside surrounding Perlan, creating a rare woodland setting in urban Reykjavik. As if working in a restaurant isn’t challenging enough (especially in combination with a family), Tolli also found the time to partic
